dvi2bitmap is a utility to convert TeX DVI files directly to bitmaps, without going through the complicated (and slow!) route of conversion via PostScript and PNM. gfontview is a Font Viewer for outline fonts (PostScript Type 1 and TrueType). It will display all fonts present in the chosen directory in a list, with a preview of the font in the main window.
