MED-FOES is an implementation of a stochastic Agent-Based Simulation (ABS) system for analyzing demographic changes in a single population of Medfly (Ceratitis capitata) over time. The simulation currently takes population extinction as a given because it aims to give us better estimates of necessary quarantine lengths in areas where Medfly is not currently established but does repeatedly invade. Thus the objective of this software is to estimate the time to local extirpation based on known ranges of developmental, survivorship and reproductive parameters, as well as assumed ranges of an eradication pressure parameter. For a complete analysis and estimate of time to extirpation one would execute a large number of individual simulations evenly distributed over parameter space to estimate the time at which an arbitrary percentage of the simulations show extirpation.

MIMES is a suite of dynamic ecological economic computer models specifically aimed at integrating our understanding of ecosystem functioning, ecosystem services, and human well-being across a range of spatial scales.

Metamodels provide a novel approach to species risk assessment in which diverse threats are addressed through different disciplines, act at different spatiotemporal scales, or interact in non-linear ways. A metamodel links multiple, discrete models that depict components of a complex system, governing the flow of information between models and the sequence of events in the simulation. Each discrete model simulates processes specific to its disciplinary realm while being informed of changes in other parts of the metamodel by accessing common descriptors of the system, populations, and individuals. Interactions among models are revealed as emergent properties of the system. MetaModel Manager is a platform to implement this approach for extending wildlife risk assessment beyond single-species PVA. MetaModel Manager allows any number of models representing species demography, diseases, landscapes, human actions, or other processes to be linked to models of population dynamics.

Nelder plot (Nelder 1962) is an experimental design for testing a multiple tree spacings in a single plot. The shape of plot is circular with some number of concentric wheels or arcs radiating outward and the spokes connecting the center. The intersections of spokes and arcs are the tree positions. The tree position on different wheels represent a different the tree spacing distance or tree density. This design eliminates the need for separate experimental plots for each tree density. The difficulties with Nelder plot design is their uncommon layout and complex parameterization (Parrott et al. 2012).
