Secure wiping/shredding of free disk space with many methods
...The following filesystems are supported: - Ext2/3/4, - NTFS, - XFS, - ReiserFSv3/4, - FAT12/16/32, - MinixFS1/2, - JFS, - HFS/HFS+, - OCFS. The following wiping methods are supported: Gutmann-like, random, Schneier, DoD. Additionally, WipeFreeSpace can finalize wiping the filesystem by writing blocks of zeros, which is friendly for sparse files, virtual systems and other places where zeroed-out space is not physically allocated. (a block will be skipped) a negated previous bit. It's necessary to use a partition with enough adjacent free blocks (code length + holes for fragmentation) within a blockgroup, for this algorithm to work correctly. -

A Resource Activity Monitor for Linux Machines
imntr (inode monitor) can be used to montior activity on files or directories. Monitoring is accomplished through the inotify API, which is available on Linux 2.6.13 and up. v1.1 added logging capabilities and cleaned up some of v1.0's code v1.2 no longer forces you to run imntr as root. If you want to monitor a privileged file, imntr will fail and tell you that you need to run imntr as root. -

Imageinfo is a command line tool which recognizes TIFF,GIF,PNG, BMP,JPEG,TGA,PBM,PGM,PPM image files. It is the simplest C code necessary to display useful information about each file without the use of external libraries or any C runtime code. The current EXE is 10K bytes. -

Reading RiserFS partitions from Windows
Tool that allows reading ReiserFS partitions under Windows. Contains a WebDAV server so under Vista it is possible to assign a drive letter to the ReiserFS partition. Contains no kernel/driver code. -

noflushd is a Linux daemon that monitors disk activity and spins down idle disks. It then blocks further writes to the disk to prevent it from spinning up again. Writes are cached and flushed to disk when the next read request triggers a spin-up.
