    RE2/J

    RE2/J

linear time regular expression matching in Java

RE2/J is a high-performance regular expression engine implemented in pure Java as a port of Google’s C++ RE2 library. Unlike traditional regex engines such as Java’s java.util.regex, PCRE, or Perl’s implementation—which rely on backtracking and can suffer from catastrophic exponential runtimes—RE2/J guarantees linear-time matching relative to input size. It achieves this efficiency by simulating all possible matches in a single pass using a nondeterministic finite automaton (NFA), ensuring predictable and safe performance even with complex patterns. This makes RE2/J ideal for applications that must handle user-supplied regular expressions securely without the risk of denial-of-service through regex backtracking. While it omits some advanced features like backreferences and certain Java regex options, it supports the vast majority of practical expressions used in production code. RE2/J thus provides a reliable, safe, and scalable alternative for developers.

    diff-so-fancy

    diff-so-fancy

Make your diffs human readable instead of machine readable

diff-so-fancy strives to make your diffs human readable instead of machine readable. This helps improve code quality and helps you spot defects faster. diff-so-fancy is also available from NPM, Nix, brew, and as a package on Arch and Debian Linux. Windows users may need to install MinGW or the Windows subsystem for Linux. By default, the separator for the file header uses Unicode line-drawing characters. If this is causing output errors on your terminal, set this to false to use ASCII characters instead. By default, the separator for the file header spans the full width of the terminal. Use this setting to set the width of the file header manually. Pull requests are quite welcome, and should target the next branch. You can simplify git header chunks to a more human readable format. We are also looking for any feedback or ideas on how to make diff-so-fancy even fancier.

    git-autofixup

    git-autofixup

Create fixup commits for topic branches

git-autofixup parses hunks of changes in the working directory out of git diff output and uses git blame to assign those hunks to commits in <revision>..HEAD, which will typically represent a topic branch, and then creates fixup commits to be used with git rebase --interactive --autosquash. It is assumed that hunks near changes that were previously committed to the topic branch are related. <revision> defaults to git merge-base --fork-point HEAD @{upstream} || git merge-base HEAD @{upstream}, but this will only work if the current branch has an upstream/tracking branch. See git help revisions for info about how to specify revisions.

    makepp

GNU make compatible but reliable and simpler build tool

Makepp, a build program which has a number of features that allow for reliable builds and simpler build files, is a drop-in replacement for GNU make. It supports almost all of the syntax that GNU make supports, and can be used with makefiles produced by utilities such as automake. It is called makepp (or make++) because it was designed with special support for C++, which has since been extended to other languages like Swig or embedded SQL. Some features that makepp adds to make are: greatly improved handling of builds that involve multiple makefiles (recursive make is no longer necessary); automatic scanning for include files; rebuild triggered if build command changes; checksum-based signature methods for reliable builds, smart enough to ignore whitespace or comment changes; extensibility through Perl programming (within your makefile); repositories (automatically importing files from another tree); build caches (not recompiling identically what a user of the same cache already did

    Perl 5

    Perl 5

    The Perl programming language

This repository contains the reference implementation of the Perl 5 programming language, including the interpreter, core modules, build system, and an extensive test suite. Perl 5 is a multi-paradigm language renowned for powerful text processing, rich regular expressions, and pragmatic glue code across systems. The core distribution is highly portable, building on Unix, Linux, Windows, and many other platforms, with stable release cycles and careful back-compatibility. A C API (XS) and embedding APIs allow tight integration with native libraries and host applications, while the CPAN ecosystem supplies hundreds of thousands of reusable modules. Development emphasizes robust tests (t/), meticulous changelogs, and tooling like perldoc to keep the language approachable and dependable. In practice, Perl 5 remains a workhorse for sysadmin automation, data munging, web services, and any task where flexible, expressive text handling is paramount.
