    Capistrano

    Capistrano

    Remote multi-server automation tool

A remote server automation and deployment tool written in Ruby. Capistrano extends the Rake DSL with methods specific to running commands on() servers. Capistrano is written in Ruby, but it can easily be used to deploy any language. If your language or framework has special deployment requirements, Capistrano can easily be extended to support them. Capistrano is bundled as a Ruby Gem. It requires Ruby 2.0 or newer. Capistrano can be installed as a standalone Gem, or bundled into your application. It is recommended to fix the version number when using Capistrano, and is therefore recommended to use an appropriate bundler. The capistrano-rails gem includes extras specifically designed for Ruby on Rails, specifically Asset Pipeline Support and Database Migration Support. Capistrano deploys using SSH. Thus, you must be able to SSH (ideally with keys and ssh-agent) from the deployment system to the destination system for Capistrano to work.

    Capybara

    Capybara

Acceptance test framework for web applications

Capybara is a Ruby acceptance testing framework that simulates how a real user would interact with a web application. It allows developers to write tests that drive browsers, checking for expected content, links, buttons, and form interactions. Capybara integrates with drivers like Selenium, Rack::Test, and headless browsers such as Cuprite or WebKit, letting tests run in real browsers or lightweight simulation environments. Its DSL emphasizes natural language-like syntax, such as visit, click_button, and fill_in, which makes tests readable and expressive. Capybara also handles asynchronous JavaScript and dynamic content, waiting for elements to appear or actions to complete before assertions run. By bridging test suites with actual browser behavior, Capybara helps ensure that web apps behave correctly from a user’s perspective.

    Easy git deployment

    Easy git deployment

    git deployment made easy

Easy git deployment is a lightweight deployment tool that simplifies the process of deploying applications to remote servers using Git as the primary mechanism. It works by setting up a remote repository with a post-receive hook that automatically updates the application whenever code is pushed. This approach allows developers to deploy applications by simply pushing changes to a designated branch, eliminating the need for complex deployment pipelines. The tool generates customizable deployment scripts that can perform tasks such as installing dependencies, running database migrations, and restarting services. It is designed to be easy to set up and integrate into existing workflows, making it accessible even for small teams or individual developers. Git Deploy also supports rollback functionality, allowing users to revert to previous versions if needed. Its hook-based architecture ensures that deployments are consistent and automated without requiring additional tooling.

    Geocoder

    Geocoder

    Complete Ruby geocoding solution

Geocoder is a full-featured geocoding library for Ruby that integrates seamlessly with Rails applications. It enables converting addresses into geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) and vice versa, known as reverse geocoding. The gem supports multiple geocoding services like Google, Bing, Mapbox, and OpenStreetMap, letting developers choose based on cost or coverage. Beyond simple geocoding, Geocoder can perform IP address lookups, distance queries, and proximity searches directly in ActiveRecord or Mongoid models. With its database integration, you can query for nearby records, order results by distance, or filter results within a radius, making it invaluable for location-based apps. By abstracting away API differences and providing a clean Ruby interface, Geocoder makes geospatial features straightforward to implement in web and mobile projects.

    Guard

    Guard

Guard is a command line tool to easily handle events on file system

Please upgrade to Ruby >= 2.4 before installing Guard! To install for older versions, update Bundler at least 1.12: gem update bundler and Bundler should correctly resolve to earlier gems for your given Ruby version. Guard automates various tasks by running custom rules whenever file or directories are modified. It's frequently used by software developers, web designers, writers and other specialists to avoid mundane, repetitive actions and commands such as "relaunching" tools after changing source files or configurations. Common use cases include: an IDE replacement, web development tools, designing "smart" and "responsive" build systems/workflows, automating various project tasks and installing/monitoring various system services.

    Jekyll-Instagram Plugin

    Jekyll-Instagram Plugin

A Jekyll plugin for displaying your recent Instagram photos

Jekyl-Instagram is a Jekyll plugin for displaying a feed of your recent Instagram photos. To install this plugin into your project you will need to copy _plugins/jekyllgram.rb into the _plugins directory in your Jekyll project. Then for the plugin to be able to communicate with Instagram you will need to register an application with the Instagram Basic Display API and then make your access token available as an environment variable on your dev/build machine named JEKYLLGRAM_TOKEN. Your Instagram account will need to be public for this to work correctly. To avoid making your main account public you can create a separate Instagram account just for your public feed and use that account. There is a working example of a basic Jekyll site using this plugin that is available in the example directory of this repo.

    Jekyll::Gzip

    Jekyll::Gzip

Generate gzipped assets and files for your Jekyll site at build time

Generate gzipped assets and files for your Jekyll site at build time. Performance in web applications is important. You know that, which is why you have created a static site using Jekyll. But you want a bit more performance. You're serving your assets and files gzipped, but you're making your webserver do it? Why not just generate those gzip files at build time? And with the maximum compression too? Jekyll::Gzip does just that. Add the gem to your Jekyll application and when you build your site it will generate gzip files for all text based files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc). Zlib's gzipping capabilities don't quite squeeze all the compression out of our files that we could want. If you want a slower but better compression algorithm, check out Jekyll::Zopfli. Zopfli is about the best compression we can get out of the gzip format, but there's more! Brotli is a relatively new compression format that is now supported by many browsers and can produce even smaller files.

    Mongoid

    Mongoid

    Ruby ODM framework for MongoDB

Mongoid is the officially supported ODM (Object-Document-Mapper) framework for MongoDB in Ruby. This Mongoid community organization is a group of open-source contributors around the Mongoid ODM not affiliated with the company, MongoDB. Mongoid is customarily configured through a mongoid.yml file that specifies options and clients. The simplest configuration is as follows, which configures Mongoid to talk to a MongoDB server at “localhost:27017” and use the database named “mongoid”. If you are not using Ruby on Rails, Mongoid configuration must be loaded manually. This can be done via the Mongoid.load! method, which takes the configuration file path as its argument. It is also possible to configure Mongoid directly in Ruby, without using a configuration file. This configuration style does not support the concept of environments - whatever configuration is provided, it is applied to the current environment, but it does support defining multiple clients.

    Octokit

    Octokit

Ruby toolkit for the GitHub API

API wrappers should reflect the idioms of the language in which they were written. Octokit.rb wraps the GitHub API in a flat API client that follows Ruby conventions and requires little knowledge of REST. Most methods have positional arguments for required input and an options hash for optional parameters, headers, or other options. While most methods return a Resource object or a Boolean, sometimes you may need access to the raw HTTP response headers. Access tokens can be revoked, removing access for only that token without having to change your password everywhere. Access tokens have access scopes that allow for more granular access to API resources. For instance, you can grant a third party access to your gists but not your private repositories. Two-Factor Authentication brings added security to the account by requiring more information to login.

    RubyGems

    RubyGems

Library packaging and distribution for Ruby

RubyGems is a package management framework for Ruby. A package (also known as a library) contains a set of functionality that can be invoked by a Ruby program, such as reading and parsing an XML file. We call these packages "gems" and RubyGems is a tool to install, create, manage and load these packages in your Ruby environment. RubyGems is also a client for RubyGems.org, a public repository of Gems that allows you to publish a Gem that can be shared and used by other developers. See our guide on publishing a Gem.

    Tesla JSON API

    Tesla JSON API

A Ruby gem and unofficial documentation of Tesla's JSON API

This is unofficial documentation of the Tesla JSON API used by their iOS and Android apps. It features functionality to monitor and control their vehicle (Models S, 3, X, Y) and power (Powerwall) products. We currently have documentation for their vehicles, but always accept pull requests for improvements and additions. The API for vehicles is organized into 3 primary surfaces. This gem provides a basic wrapper around the API to easily query and command the car remotely. It also provides access to the streaming API and a means to process data coming from it. Gives point-in-time data about the state of the vehicle and basic controls over certain functions of the vehicle. The state and command APIs loosely adhere to the REST standard, but differ in some crucial ways. As a result, you may not be able to use it with many REST tools and libraries out of the box.

    academic Jekyll

    academic Jekyll

Jekyll theme with a focus on simplicity, typography and flexibility

Academic is a Jekyll theme with a focus on simplicity, typography and flexibility. I originally designed it for my personal blog during my PhD thesis. Both in design and configuration, Academic aims to let the writer and its readers focus on the content. Almost all of the theme configuration happens in the _config.yml file. The goal of Academic is to let the author write very long and detailed posts while being kind to its readers' eyes. Academic can be used to generate different layouts while keeping the same look and feel. All features require you to opt in, which means that you can either use a very lean _config.yml or a very detailed one if you want to use more features.
