    redshirt

    redshirt

    Operating system

Redshirt is an experimental operating system written in Rust that explores new approaches to OS design by emphasizing asynchronous execution, message passing, and modularity. It is built around a microkernel-inspired architecture where components communicate through well-defined interfaces rather than relying on shared state. The system is designed to run on top of WebAssembly, using it as a portable and sandboxed execution layer for processes and services. Redshirt aims to rethink traditional operating system concepts by leveraging modern programming paradigms such as async/await and capability-based security. It includes components for task scheduling, device interaction, and system services, all implemented in a highly modular fashion. The project is still experimental but serves as a research platform for exploring how WebAssembly can be used as a foundation for operating systems.

    rust_cmd_lib

    rust_cmd_lib

Common rust command-line macros and utilities

rust_cmd_lib is a Rust library designed to make it easier to write shell-script–style tasks in Rust, blending the power and safety of Rust with the expressiveness of shell pipelines. It provides macros and utilities that let you spawn external processes, redirect input/output, and pipe commands together, all without invoking a shell. You can write something like run_cmd!(ls -l | grep foo > out.txt) in a more declarative style, rather than manually wiring up file descriptors, handles, and child processes. The library also supports features like variable substitution, scoped environment settings, and defining custom commands (functions) that behave like built-ins. It hides much of the boilerplate of std::process::Command when you're doing simple task automations, but still allows full flexibility when needed. Because it avoids launching a shell, it reduces some classes of security and quoting errors, while improving readability of scripting logic inside a Rust binary.

    rustdesk-server-demo

    rustdesk-server-demo

A working demo of RustDesk server implementation

rustdesk-server-demo is a companion repository that demonstrates how to deploy the RustDesk backend quickly, often via containerized or scripted setups. It is intended as a practical starting point for testing and small-scale pilots before moving to a hardened production configuration. The demo showcases the interplay between the rendezvous and relay components so users can validate connectivity paths end-to-end. Clear defaults minimize the amount of configuration required, making first-time evaluations straightforward. Because it mirrors the structure of a typical deployment, it helps administrators understand networking requirements, ports, and service boundaries. It’s a helpful on-ramp for teams who want to confirm RustDesk fits their environment before investing in a full rollout.

    tachyonfx

    tachyonfx

Effects and animation library for Ratatui applications

tachyonfx is a Rust-based animation and effects library designed specifically for terminal user interfaces built with the Ratatui ecosystem, enabling developers to add visually rich transitions and dynamic behavior to text-based applications. It introduces a composable system where complex animations can be created by layering and combining smaller, reusable effects, similar to how shaders or animation pipelines work in graphical environments. The library focuses on enhancing the visual expressiveness of terminal applications, which are traditionally static, by introducing motion, interpolation, and smooth transitions between UI states. TachyonFX integrates deeply with Ratatui’s rendering model, allowing developers to apply effects to widgets, layouts, or entire scenes without rewriting core UI logic. It also supports real-time updates and interactive behaviors, making it suitable for applications that require responsive visual feedback.

    tinysearch

    tinysearch

Tiny, full-text search engine for static websites built with Rust

tinysearch is a lightweight full-text search engine designed specifically for static websites, offering fast and efficient search capabilities without requiring a backend server. It is written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly, allowing it to run entirely in the browser while maintaining a very small footprint. The engine uses compact data structures such as XOR filters to efficiently index and query text, significantly reducing memory usage compared to traditional search libraries. TinySearch is particularly well-suited for blogs and documentation sites generated by static site generators, where simplicity and performance are critical. It processes content into a serialized binary index that can be loaded quickly and searched client-side, eliminating the need for external search services. While it prioritizes efficiency, it makes trade-offs such as focusing on whole-word matching rather than advanced search suggestions.

    trustfall

    trustfall

A query engine for any combination of data sources

trustfall is a flexible and extensible query engine designed to retrieve and analyze data from a wide variety of heterogeneous sources using a unified query language. It allows developers to query APIs, databases, files, and even structured outputs from AI systems as if they were part of a single, cohesive graph-based dataset. The system is inspired by GraphQL-like paradigms, enabling expressive and composable queries that can traverse relationships across different data domains seamlessly. Trustfall operates by parsing, compiling, and executing queries through adapters that connect to specific data sources, making it highly modular and adaptable to new environments. It can run entirely client-side through WebAssembly or in traditional server-client architectures, offering flexibility in deployment scenarios. The engine is particularly powerful for cross-source querying, where data from multiple APIs or formats must be combined into a single result set.

    uutils coreutils

    uutils coreutils

Cross-platform Rust rewrite of the GNU coreutils

uutils is an attempt at writing universal (as in cross-platform) CLI utilities in Rust. Many GNU, Linux and other utilities are useful, and obviously some effort has been spent in the past to port them to Windows. However, those projects are written in platform-specific C, a language considered unsafe compared to Rust, and have other issues. Rust provides a good, platform-agnostic way of writing systems utilities that are easy to compile anywhere, and this is as good a way as any to try and learn it. The requirements are to have Rust (cargo, rustc), GNU Make (required to build documentation), Sphinx (for documentation), and gzip (for installing documentation). uutils follows Rust's release channels and is tested against stable, beta and nightly. The current oldest supported version of the Rust compiler is 1.43.1. On both Windows and Redox, only the nightly version is tested currently.

    xsv

    xsv

A fast CSV command line toolkit written in Rust

xsv is a command line program for indexing, slicing, analyzing, splitting and joining CSV files. Commands should be simple, fast and composable. Simple tasks should be easy. Performance trade offs should be exposed in the CLI interface. Composition should not come at the expense of performance. Let's say you're playing with some of the data from the Data Science Toolkit, which contains several CSV files. Maybe you're interested in the population counts of each city in the world. So grab the data and start examining it. The next thing you might want to do is get an overview of the kind of data that appears in each column. The stats command will do this for you. The xsv table command takes any CSV data and formats it into aligned columns using elastic tabstops. These commands are instantaneous because they run in time and memory proportional to the size of the slice (which means they will scale to arbitrarily large CSV data).

    zerobrew

    zerobrew

    A drop-in, 5-20x faster, experimental Homebrew alternative

zerobrew is an innovative lightweight package management system and dependency installer designed to simplify how developers install, build, and manage open-source software without relying on heavyweight ecosystems. It reimagines the idea of a “brew-like” experience by focusing on minimal dependencies, reproducible builds, and clarity of configuration so that even complex packages can be installed without deep setup overhead. Rather than abstracting every detail behind magic, ZeroBrew encourages transparency: users see what’s happening at every step and can customize build logic or patches directly within formula definitions. This makes it appealing for environments where reproducibility, auditability, and simplicity matter, such as on developer workstations, CI pipelines, or constrained runtime environments.
