Back In Time is an easy-to-use tool to backup files and folders. It runs on GNU Linux (not on Windows or OS X/macOS) and provides a command line tool backintime and a GUI backintime-qt both written in Python3. It uses rsync to take manual or scheduled snapshots and stores them locally or remotely through SSH. Each snapshot is in its own folder with copies of the original files, but unchanged files are hard-linked between snapshots to save storage space. -

bKappa is a 2009 experiment in crude but transparent and cross-platform incremental backup. bKappa backups are simple directory trees and lists of files. They are easy to browse and examine and do not use symbolic or hard links. It is crude in the sense that bKappa only tracks files by name, not by content. Sadly, its worth mentioning that keyloggers that hackers use to steal data work with the same method as this program, except they hide it and send the data online, so this program may result in a false positive with your installed antivirus. You'll need to create an exception to let this program not get quarantined by accident. Source code is included with the program and this program will never send your data anywhere or record it anywhere else than that single TXT file so I assure you it is safe - you can check the source code yourself. -
