Rune is a multi-platform text editor that has been adapted to each platform it runs on. It works on very old systems also. I don't believe old hardware should be thrown away. LatexInWord provides macros for Microsoft Word that allow the use of LaTeX input to create equations images in both inline and display modes. Similar macros for other word processors will hopefully be added in the future.
