I am using PocketBib to access my BibDesk database (saved in a Dropbox folder) on my iPad.

When I have annotated a paper and want to save it back to Dropbox, I have to close BibDesk. If I forget to do so, the link to the Pdf will be messed up, resulting in BibDesk linking to a "deleted" file in some auxiliary Dropbox folder that is deleted after some time.

The PocketBib developer says he has brought this to your attention and has offered a possible solution but you rejected to implement it.

It would be really great for me (and other PocketBib users, probably this also applies to people using the same database on multiple Macs, too) if you would consider changing the behavior so that is not a problem anymore.

Thanks

The offered "solution" was absolutely not acceptable. So I did not reject the implementation, I rejected the "solution". And I have not found an acceptable solution to this problem. The file linking is pretty complicated, because it must be very efficient and very robust (the "solution" was neither) for a lot of different things that can (and do) happen to different users in different settings. And the problem is that Dropbox manipulates the files in a way that makes it impossible to follow them robustly, as they both move and replace the file, which makes it impossible to know which one is the "real" file.
