I just can't seem to get anything to work. I don't want to have to use cygwin to get it to work! First I tried to use the gentoo method(crossdev) to install the gcc-4 cross compiler, only to find that the target is no longer supported and is now something like h8300-elf. Then I followed the cygwin instructions to compile gcc-2.95 and binutils. binutils installed fine but the gcc build failed. Next I got the latest gcc and binutils ard tried to build for --target=h8300-elf but the gcc build failed there too. I am thinking about trying to install those debian binary packages even though I don't have debian.

I really don't know what I am doing. I don't have any idea if it needs exactly h8300-hitachi-hms, or exactly that version of gcc, or if the newer gcc's need those patches that the cygwin script uses. Does everyone that uses brickOS use cygwin or debian? I couldn't find any directions for installing for a normal *nix system.

I would really like to use brickOS without having to use windows. Could someone help me set up a cross compiler that will work with brickOS?

Thanks

Tower spec

Does anyone have any usb specs on the tower?
I have installed my tools after this tutorial, and haven't
changed any critital stuff.
http://brickos.sourceforge.net/docs/INSTALL-cygwin.html

I have searched both gcc / brickos and google, but
without luck.

I have searched without luck on google for comments on
this subject.

Where do I find a math library for RCX ? (integer and/or
float)
Are there both fast and slow precise editions?
With all due respect. Is it just me, or should a math
library be a part of BrickOS ?

I have made all the calculations and formulas. Now I just
need to implement them in C++ (Maby C) and therefore
need the math part. This problem occured earlyer to me,
but I was busy and had to abandon the project.

Greetings from Denmark
several errors. After having typed the command
./configure; make
I get the following error:
....
/brickOS/kernel/lnp.c:152:9: missing terminating
character "
/brickOS/kernel/lnp.c:171:3: missing terminating
character "
....
So when I go to this file lnp.c and I remove the
quotes, the error disappears, but then other syntax
errors are shown.
Is there an explanation for it?
I am new to Mindstorms and an trying to create an
autonomous robot using the RCX. I want to use BrickOS
with C on the robot to bypass the limitations of the
legos firmware. But I also want to create a GUI to send
initial settings data (not the full program) to the robot
and recieve data after the trial. I would prefer to do
this in windows and was hoping to use Visual basic. I
have seen communication to the brick using the
Spirit.ocx+vb combination, and am wondering if this can
be used to send data to BrickOS firmware. I also saw
the OpCode commands
(http://graphics.stanford.edu/~kekoa/rcx/#Opcodes) to
send data to the RCX and am wondering if that would
work with BrickOS firmware. If so how would I send
these messages to the USB. If none of these would
work, could you possibly suggest another way of
accomplishing my goals.
I am currently trying to implement a communication protocol between
two bricks using just one of the copper wire given with the brick.
The protocol is based on manchester encoding, using a well-timed
alternation of up and low signals.
My problem is : how to generate such signals. I thought in the first time
it would be as easy as plugging a motor plug to a sensor plug.
I would then let the sensor plug be a touch sensor for BrickOs.
For the motor plug, it would really be a motor for Brickos.
But it seems that when you turn on the motor, it does not generate a
continuous signal but something more complicated.
How could i get a continuous signal on this output plug ?

I hop i am posting this to the right place.

crash after download brickos.srec

Compiling works fine,
but when I try to download the kernel to the RCX it
