Best regards, Robert

C++ Standard Template Library

C++ Standard Template Library support should be implemented. It's a very important feature.

Split into a front-end and a back-end

For porting purposes, I think a good solution would be to split ClassBuilder into a front-end UI and a platform-independent back-end. The back-end would not be totally platform-independent but could be nearly platform-independent. Then there could be multiple UIs that are optimized (for users) for multiple platforms.

As a Windows user, my experience of platform-independence is that the UI is not something I am accustomed to. I assume that Linux/Unix users don't appreciate intrusions of Windows UIs into their environment. I am skeptical that one UI can satisfy everyone.

If the back-end is separate, then the various UIs would be relatively light and could be developed and maintained by people accustomed to the relevant environments. I am not sure what would be a good interface that would be available in all environments, but I am sure something can be done, especially since some of it would use conditional compilation.

global functions

Hello,

I think it would be a good idea to have the chance to
add global friend functions to a class.

Regards

a cross platform version?

hi, this is an awesome tool. However, we are working on
a whole variety of different platforms, and thus being
limited to using CB only on Win32 is a bit unfortunate.
Thus, how about creating a multi platform version? I am
not sure if this has been brought up before, but what I
am sure about is that many other users would like to
use CB as well. Likewise, you would open up CB to an
entirely new group of potential contributors. I realize
this is something that cannot be addressed within weeks
or even months, however if would definatively be cool
if you could consider keeping this as some sort of
long-range or maybe even medium-range goal on your roadmap.
Generally, it would be cool if the functionality could
be factored out into a library that can be linked to a
multi platform library such as QT, wxWidgets, Fox, GTK
or FLTK. That way you would be able to ensure that a
broader audience of users is able to actually use CB.
Anyway, thanks again for a great tool-currently it's
basically the only reason why I keep Win XP installed
on my notebook ;-)

could you change the CreateCompatibleBitmap() calls to
CreateDIBSection() ones instead?

I keep hitting a size limitation on the former.

I've changed the HTMLDocWriter() call so that I can now
generate big png diagrams.

If you download
"http://download.microsoft.com/download/platformsdk/sample11/1/w9xnt4/en-us/dibsectn.exe"

and follow the principles shown by the
DSCreateDIBSection() + the DSCreateSpectrumPalette()
functions you can generate really large HBITMAPs.

You can then use CBitmap::FromHandle(hBitMapHandle) to
create a CBitMap and carry on with it as normal in the
code.

Locate in view/diagram

Again one thing for the big structures. When you click
a class in the tree view you should be able to get into
the diagram to that class, and position the diagram
with that class in the center of the view. The other
way around, to highlight the class in the tree when
clicking the diagram would be also nice.

classes, there should be first of all an area zoom
possibility, not necessarily very precise, but at least
to get more or less the size of the square drawn with
the cursor. All the zoom buttons should be on a
toolbar, so they are easier accessed instead of menus.
Of course, there should be also a 'fit' mode where the
whole thing, as big as it is should be fitted to the
screen. A nice extra, zoom back/forward where it
remembers the last position and zoom ratio. All the big
name tools I tried miss most of those features.
