Unfortunately i forgot to make it appear in the services list, so it doesn't start after a reboot :-/ Here is a small patch to solve this, feel free to add it if you want. cheers, Oliver |

Yes, Heiko! In this particular problem You are right. If pid file isn't
active, we can remove it before starting DHCP client.
In my suggestion I assumed: if in one situation we have problem with not
"clean" permanent /var system, case like this can appear with other
directories contents. So hook after mountings is nice for solving this class
of problems.
But, if You give user this hook, he/she will use it and will not send bug
message for You. My laziness usually suggest me to silently alter script as I
need, don't giving message to developers, so access to hook can generate baroc
construction in scripts.
Maybe for now automatic pid file cleaning will be sufficient and we should
wait for next case when this hook will be needed?
I'm not sure, what is better.
Regards

Hi, maybe somebody will find this information helpful. I have had problems using the Intel igb driver shipped with the kernel used in DL 1.4RC1, as this driver does not support the GigaBit NICs used in our firewall machine (DELL branded Intel PRO 1000VT Quad Port Gigabit Network Card). The driver included in the kernel sources is igb v1.2.45-k2, but support for our NICs has only been added in a later version. To fix this problem, I have added some scripts to build the most recent igb driver for DL (currently igb v1.3.19.3). I copied the driver archive found on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000) into the src-extra directory and added the scripts I attached to this mail (scripts/igb and scripts/configuration/igb.config). Now if CONFIG_INTEL_IGB=y is added to .config (or selected from within menuconfig), the module will be built and added to the DL image and more recent Intel GB NICs can be used with DL. Best regards, Stefan |

Hi, I detected non typical problem. Source of it is in two assumptions: 1. one ethernet interface is configured as DHCP client 2. on /var directory is mounted permanent storage After sudden stop of system (i.e. power-off) automatic correct restart (i.e. power-restore) is impossible, beacause of existing /var/run/dhcpcd-ethX.pid --- /etc/init.d/network script cannot start dhcpd client for that interface, so interface will not be configured correctly. Ofcourse, typically we are not using DHCP configured interfaces in router, but some small ISP prefer sometime this methods of configuration. And typically /var is on ramdisk, so on restart /var/run is again without old pids. But sometime /var is located on permanent storage for store logs and some configurations (i.e. iptraf) and historic rrd data (i.e. ntop). Point, where I can clean /var/run catalog is after /etc/init.d/mountfs script (if I automount /var filesystem from /etc/fstab). But in this script there is no end hook (as in some other scripts). So there is possibility to mount /var not from /etc/fstab but from earlier hook and clean /var/run immediatelly. But I think, this is not elegant solution --- typically automatically mounted filesystems are declared in /etc/fstab and in this file anyone search mountings. So there is a question: Is there other possibility to safely clean /var/run directory after mount from fstab but before starting any services? Or maybe mountfs script need modification in calling his own hook at end? Regards Andrzej Odyniec |

Hey guys, I added MantisBT to our project on sourceforge, so we can track bugs and feature requests better. You'll need to login with your Sourceforge ID. http://apps.sourceforge.net/mantisbt/devil-linux/ Lets play with it a bit and see if it works out. If you reported a problem before and we didn't fix it yet, please take the time and add it.
