My apologies.  You presumably resolved your problem or gave up trying to use DrJava.  Here is my belated explanation:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It appears that your firewall is blocking interprocess communication via TCP/IP on your local machine.  This is odd because modern operating system enable such communication by default.  DrJava uses two Java virtual machines that communicate via Java RMI which relies on TCP/IP on the local machine.
