I've created a new package called CORBA ORB within the EsiObjects project at http://www.sourceforge.net. The EsiORB_1_0_0_1.zip file contains all the components needed to install EsiORB. Additionally, it contains two documents: the EsiORB Internals Guide and EsiORB Student Guide. EsiORB is an implementation of the CORBA communications standard only. It does not include all the services.
This package submission has not been enhanced to the level of coding conventions as previous submissions (Base library and EsiDoc). This, however, has nothing to do with the operational integrity of the package. It is the same package that runs at multiple sites. Enhancements consist of internal documentation, code option blocks added, etc. I've found that I will be on the road for much of the time between now and April. So, I decided to get this package out to Open Source for you to download and use. As time goes on, I will bring the packages up to coding standards.
The CORBA communications standard is really useable as an enterprise wide communications technology. It, in conjunction with the PIDS service and a Master Patient Index, can be used to integrate multiple databases. For example, it is used in conjunction with the EasyEnterprise application that will be submitted sometime in the spring (Boston spring is summer everywhere else :-). EasyEnterprise integrates data from multiple VistA databases and presents it as an integrated patient record.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
