Hi all,

just found this nice little tool and thought it would help be, but I am struggling to get it to work. I am running OSX 10.4.11 on a PowerPC macmini. I have an USB drive with 80 GB that is partitioned with two partitions (1 GB VFAT and 79 GB ext2). After some tweaking (fsck) the program does automaticall mount both partitions. However, the ext2 is mounted read-only even though I did not configure it to do so.

Any ideas how I could change this?

here is the mount list:

/dev/disk2s1 on /Volumes/USB-BOOT (local, nodev, nosuid)

/dev/disk2s2 on /Volumes/USBDATA (local, nodev, nosuid, read-only)

Sudden failure to mount disk

Exactly what happened:

I have a 160GB LACIE d2 Hard Drive "Extreme" with 100GB of important, Linux-formatted data on it. I am running 10.4.11 on a PowerBook G4. I connected the drive to my laptop with the USB 2.0 cable.

I downloaded Mac OS X Ext2 Filesystem so that I could mount the disk. I installed the software, and rebooted.

After I came back from lunch, it had all worked, and my drive was mounted. EXtFSManager can see the disk, and reports:"Filesystem: Linux Ext3 (Journaled)"

I then copied a couple of text files over to the drive to make sure things were working. All seemed well.

I then started a job which accessed the files on the drive. Things were working fine. About a half hour through the job, I turned my laptop for someone to see the monitor. I got an error, and the drive was no longer accessible in the finder. I jiggled the cables, but nothing happened. Opening the EXTFS system panel, it can detect the drive, but not mount it. It reads "Disk Error" and "Message:Disk not ready". Disk Utility says: "1 non HFS volume detected. Volume needs repair".

I tried rebooting my machine, and reconnecting the drive. Same result. The drive is no longer accessible.

Is my disk dead? What the hell happened?
Have I lost all of my data because I trusted some freeware?!

If a system log would be helpful, I can include one. Please let me know.

can't mount after Finder rename

i successfully mounted an external HD with Ext2 filesystem. I changed the name of the mount using Finder and have been unable to re connect/mount the drive.

I can see the drive under Ext2 manager, but the new name I gave it in Finder doesn't show up.

I can also see the drive under OS X disk utility - here, the new name appears.

is this a naming conflict? any suggestions? please help.

1. Are these error messages anything to be worried about?

2. If not, is there any way to turn them off?

The above messages are from a MacBook (intel). On my ppc box, which has been up five days, the dmesg buffer is full of nothing but:

Both machines are mounting ext3 fs's with dir_index enabled. Both detect it, and disable read-write mounting, which is fine with me.

Or is this just the price I pay for running developement software?

Since Mac OS X 10.4 doesn't have native ext2/ext3 filesystem
support, it would be awesome if a new release of ext2fsx would be
"Tiger compatible". :D

accessing firewire maxtor drives

I have had to reformat my firewire and USB maxtor 300GB drive to
ext3 to work with the linksys NSLU2 adapter. Since i need to copy
large files to it, in some cases I want to hook it up direct to my
powerbook G4 running osx 10.3.8 with the firewire cable. that is why
i installed your excellent application Ext2fs 1.3. However for some
reason it seems to believe the drive was incorectly formatted (which
does not seem to be the case since i can access the drive very well
with the NSLU2). I attach a screenshot of the drive and the error
message.

Any help would be gratefully received.

application located ? I installed the package and can

Amiga FastFileSystem

Hi Brian!

Is there a way to support the Amiga FasFileSystem (AFFS)? Linux
itself supports this filesystem and I'm missing this in Mac OS X.

Many people use the Amiga emulator UAE on their Macs, and want
to use the diskimages (hardfiles) created for UAE directly in Mac
OS X.

If this would be possible, please tell me an answer ;o).
