There is an upper limit on resolution above which the render doesn't start, it hangs and the CPU load peaks. It seems to be somewhere around 6 megapixels on Win7. When i was using flam4 on WinXP 32bit the highest resolution i could render was around 20 Mpixels.

The limit on resolution depends on the amount of graphics memory available on your system. Apparently Windows 7 uses more of it than XP. It would figure.
I don't know why it's hanging, and not properly erroring out, though....
