Update with patches and fixes any time soon ?

I spent yesterday implementing a class that can display pictures using the FreeImage dlls (32bit and 64bit) that can be downloaded here at sourceforge. Unfortunately I did not pay attention to the fact that the dlls are quite old and that perhaps fixes and patches have not gone into a new set of dlls yet.
Are there plans to release an update ?
In today's testing I find there are a lot of inconsistencies in behavior between 32 bit and 64 bit but especially between the load from memory and the load via filename functions. Former often fails to properly display what latter can. Or there are differences in rendering etc. I did not expect that. I figured that latter uses former functionality internally and both variants would give the same result.
All and all it looks like I will need to look for a different solution unless there is an update in the pipeline ?
I am very impressed by the tool set but it seems it never fully matured in something stable across the board and across the file types it supports ? Unless I'm missing something entirely ? PS. I tested gif, jpg, bmp and tif, maybe a few others too.
