Given that fact that OSX is a Posix system, it should be possible to release a version for Mac/OSX. There is no other application out there which has similar features for Mac so it would be great if a version for Mac is released too.

popup/tooltip

I am basing this request off of the official gmail notifier as I want to ensure this notifier doesn't include this annoyance that google won't change so that I can use this instead when windows support is restored.

The ability to turn off the error message popups when a network connection connection is slow or not found etc.. Constantly I watch movies' off my screen and all get is these error messages showing up as my wifi signal drops for a few seconds and the message keeps showing over the movie and find it very frustrating, but I cannot turn off gmail for a couple of hours as if I miss a business related email things won't be good.

Support Labels

Have the ability to configure Gmail-notify to check labels for new messages including the ability to turn some off.

play a sound when new mail arrives

It would be nice to have an audible cue when new email arrives for those times when I'm not right in front of my computer. Being able to execute a script when new mail arrives (as per request #2263425 ) would allow me to write a script to do this, but not everyone is going to want to write code for this purpose.

enable "Go to inbox..." to work with Google Apps accounts

Currently, clicking "Go to inbox..." does not work for Google Apps accounts. Instead of sending the browser to mail.google.com/a/domain.tld, it sends it to the standard Gmail login.

Gmail Notifier could simply look at the domain name portion of the email address to see which login to send the browser to.

run a command on new mail and on no new mail

I have a Logitech MX610 mouse, and there exists an app called mx610hack that can light up the e-mail and IM buttons on the mouse.

It would be nice to be able to issue that command through gmail-notifier...
When there is no new mail, another command can turn the light off.

Of course, a lot of other thing could be run this way.

Best regards,

There are some features that would make it even more useful. I realise now that I have quite a lot of ideas, so I'll try to organize them as tidy as possible.

* "Go to inbox" actually takes you to your inbox without having to provide username and password. The notifier application from Google can do that so it's possible.

* Single-click not only shows the notifier window, but also checks for new mail.

* Double-click opens inbox.

* Icon shows number of unread mail.

It would be even greater if the last three functions would be configurable.

* Let the notifier window sink down from above instead of rising from below to fit more desktop setups. Or emerge from left or right. Personally I think a fade in/out animation would be neat.

* As someone else has suggested. Able to handle mailto: links in any browser. That is setting Gmail Notifier as your default e-mail client.

I hope this gives you some ideas.

Good luck in development! Looking forward to 1.7.

I simply love your gmail notifier -- it has all the features I was looking for -- the only thing missing is the above mentioned feature and cleaner password encryption options (via kdewallet).

Thanks so much!

Pass conf file as argument (for multiple accounts)

(I saw the old request "Support for multiple accounts" from 2005...)

I currently use a simple trick for this: I made a second copy of my entire "/opt/gmail-notify/" program directory to a new directory "/opt/gmail-notify2/".
Both directories are identical, apart from the conf files:
- /opt/gmail-notify/notifier.conf contains my first gmail account.
- /opt/gmail-notify2/notifier.conf contains my second gmail account.

Finally I configured my X to automatically start TWO notifier.py processes during my logon: /opt/gmail-notify/notifier.py and /opt/gmail-notify2/notifier.py. So I constantly have two notifiers running in parallel (and two notifier icons on my toolbar).

Works perfectly for me.

HOWEVER a simple change to notifier.py could make this somewhat easier: if we could pass the conf file as argument to notifier.py, we wouldn't have to have multiple copies of the program itself. We could then make X start two or more processes, e.g. like this:
- /opt/gmail-notify/notifier.py ~/gmail-1.conf
- /opt/gmail-notify/notifier.py ~/gmail-2.conf

Storing uname&password in keyring?

I just found out that when user selects the option of "save username and password" option, notifier stores them in a plaintext file. This is of course a huge, if not the biggest, security problem about the notifier. For linux versions, can you enable storing user credentials into default keyring on platforms that supports keyring?
