I understand that the data structures are not that complex, but that rotors are more interesting than that.

It is not enough to have a substitution table, you have to have a defult posistion -- and with the Swiss NEMA (Neu Machine) -- you would need to have a rotor stepping record as well.

Better help menus

Generally HcryptoJ needs better explanations of the different ciphers and how they work.

RSA

Adding RSA to hcryptoJ

Plugin registry

It would be nice if when adding a new plugin one did not have to modify core source code. One could use the model that JDBC uses by which database drivers register themselves: HCryptoJ has a class (maybe PluginManager) that provides a static method (maybe register()) that new plugins call as part of their static initialization. This call does whatever PluginProvider.put() currently does.

Help pages

For every cipher engine implemented in CryptoTool there should be a button on the UI that lets you get information about how that cipher words in general and how the particular implementation works. But it uses the single algorithm--the keyword is placed at the beginning of the alphabet and the alphabet is filled in with the remaining characters. It would be useful to have several algorithms for generating the key from the keyword. For example, insert the remaining characters in reverse order or place the keyword at the end of the alphabet rather than at the beginning or place the keyword in the middle of the alphabet.

Cryptotool UI feature request

There should be some obvious way to tell which pane of the Cipher frame is active. This description is present in some but not all of the engine files.
In addition, for the output, better descriptions of what is going on will help with ease of use. For example:
The keyword is: 12
Provider = Default
