KeePass fails silently without .net
A lightweight and easy-to-use password manager

I recently tried to use my network installation of KeePass on a brand new laptop, and found that it started, but disappeared from the Task Manager list within a few seconds with no explanation why - and copying KeePass.exe to the Desktop and running it from there made no difference. It took me a while to figure out that the machine apparently didn't have .NET - or didn't have the right version of .NET; after installing KB5003254, everything straightened itself out, but it seemed odd that KeePass itself gave absolutely no indication of what was going on.
I thought .NET was standard on Windows.
What version of Windows and where did you get it from?
Installed or portable KeePass?
cheers, Paul
So did I, but while trying to configure this machine (a new Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IML05, with Windows 10 Home 20H2), I got a message somewhere along the line that .NET wasn't available; and when I looked at the Windows Update screen, it said that this .NET package needed to be installed.
As for KeePass, I was trying to run it the same way I always do, except that I didn't have a shortcut for it yet, so I double-clicked
\\FILESERVER\PathTo\KeePass.exe. When that didn't work, I copied KeePass.exe to the Desktop (which I had to do anyway, temporarily, to get a functioning shortcut in the taskbar) and double-clicked that (the.exefile), with the same result - nothing.Everything's working now, but I just thought I'd post this to see if Dominik wants to add some sort of error box for when .NET can't be found. (Oddly, the update I installed said that it needs .NET 3.5 or 4.8 to be present, but I distinctly recall seeing a dialog - from what, I don't remember - that said .NET wasn't available on this machine. Maybe it just didn't like the version that was there? If I wasn't busy with other things, I'd like to try removing this update, just to see what happens.)
EDIT: Okay, this is also crazy: Settings shows the update, but the Control Panel (where one still needs to go to uninstall updates) doesn't list it at all. Apparently, I can't uninstall it even if I wanted to.
