Crystalfontz 634 and serial input

Does anyone know if the serial input works with the
crystalfontz 634 driver? Whenever I set it up, it does
not save the settings. Only ok can be pressed, and
when I open the configuration of the plugin again,
keyboard input is selected.
Moreover does the serial input require handashakes in
order to read the serial port data?

My hardware is a handheld device with a seiko LCD
module, a PIC to receive serial data from an RF module
and decode the 634 commands and convert them to the
commands for my LCD display. The key input comes from
an array which is sent to the RF module and is received
to the other RF module connected to the serial port of
the pc. If the plugin can read the data asynchronously
(no handshake using CTS and DTR) then it should work.
Any information about how to set up the input and if it
requires handshakes will be greatly appreciated
