Read ArcIMS "catalog"

The catalog service describes what services are
available on an ArcIMS server.

MapRequest should read the catalog, and use as much
information as possible from the catalog. This would
reduce the amount of configuration needed for each map
description file.

Cache files

Allow user to "save" the current "session"

It would be good to have some way of saving the current
session.

That is, keep track of the current map and zoom so that
the user can quit MapRequest, restart it at some later
stage, and go back to where they were.

Display m/pixel

It would be good to display the m/pixel so that it is
possible to get an idea of the scale.

Possibly it would be good to allow the user to edit the
m/pixel and then re-zoom the map around the map's
midpoint at the new m/pixel value.

Fix column headings for map selection screen

The columns on this screen are all the same width. It
would be better if the widths matched the width of the
text in the column (giving more space for the map
name).

was narrow so the other columns could display more

Should not have to include file extension when saving

When saving an image it is a bit confusing that you
have to include the file extension (.jpg or .png) in the file
name in order to get MapRequest to save the image.

It would be better if it worked this out for you in some
way.

Use commons logging for log messages

MapRequest should use commons logging for logging,
rather than System.err or System.out.

Create an "installer" for MapRequest

MapRequest is currently a little tricky to install. It would
be better if it had an automated "installer" (and
uninstaller).
