Java exception raised using Emacs

I'm running MATLAB r2006a and am having trouble using
matlab.el and the EmacsLink. I've been using MATLAB
and Emacs successfully for the past several years, but
now whenever I try to set breakpoints and run the
debugger in MATLAB using emacs as the editor I get java
errors:

I'm running in WinXP SP2, using NT-emacs 21.3.1, I've
tried using earlier versions of matlab.el (2.4) and I'm
getting the same problem. I've also posted to Matlab
Central, but have gotten no replies.

I'd like to continue using Emacs and Matlab.
