".  But rootscontract misses converting  &lt;code&gt;x^a * y^a&lt;/code&gt; to &lt;code&gt;(x*y)^a&lt;/code&gt;.  Maybe rootscontract could be extended do do this;  likely there would be a new value for the the option variable  rootsconmode that controls this conversion. &lt;/p&gt;
