chipsets do not include two IDE channels.

(Ex., the Dell Dimension 91x0 / XPS 400 series with
the i945 chipset only has one IDE channel and does not
support two UDMA mode 4/5/6 devices concurrently on
the master and slave, limiting the IDE expansion to
one HD at UDMA 4/5/6 and one boot CD at UDMA-2)

It would be of great convenience if the MFSTools boot
CD were to add support for alternative HD controllers
if for nothing else than to read/write backup images
from/to. Added support for a variety of PCI IDE
controllers would definitely be a plus, as would
support for USB and Firewire drives and SATA
controllers as well.

I have found that an old Promise IDE controller I have
actually works with the boot CD, but a newer PCI IDE
controller based on a Silicon Image chipset does not.

Port to TIvo

It would be best if we can do the backups right on the Tivo
unit itself and avoid the most inconvenient disk drive
shuffle. We could then back up to nfs-mounted or samba-
mounted drive or ftp the backup ourselves to the file server
of our choice.

Test backup

The ability to test a backup image for compression
most appreciated.

kernel 2.6.x for ntfs write

kernel 2.6.x has native support for writeing to ntfs
drives. this would help a lot of people who have
windows 2k/xp

Ability to divorce without the B drive

Often there are cases where a drive can be divorced
without the B drive being present. Such cases would be
simple upgrades that just involved adding a drive. There
is enough data on the first drive, since the list of blocks
to backup comes from the application partition. Some
detection would be needed that there wasn't an
application partition on the missing drive, but besides
that, there should be no issues.

However, since the limitation comes from the MFS library
and not from the backup tool, this may not be such an
easy fix.

MacOS-X support

The most commonly requested platform to support is
MacOS-X. It should be fairly straight forward of a port,
at least for a console application. A graphical interface
would be a little bit more.

Graphical interface (X11/etc)

Right now the interface is not very user friendly. A
graphical interface would make this much easier. Either
something that runs on something else (Such as X) or a
standalone GUI. Something standalone would be best for
people doing a boot disk. I believe QT has a standalone
version as well as an X11 version, so that would be a
good choic if so.
