Hi,
as there is no real standard for mp3 replay gain tags it would be a good idea to write ape tags _and_ id3 tags by default because some players only support one of them: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Replaygain#Implementations
Example:
1. Amarok supports ape tags
2. mpd supports foobar2000 style id3 tags
