that life would be simpler if I moved the demo programs&lt;br /&gt;
to a central examples project.  The examples do not&lt;br /&gt;
require frequent updating; their images add significant&lt;br /&gt;
bulk to both the source and binary distributions;&lt;br /&gt;
several demos require parts from more than one of the&lt;br /&gt;
