open sta for like 2 weeks and was
thinking which is the best way to use the timers, ive
been reading through differents post, and it seems
some people use timers with the wait comands, and
syncrhonize command, but what i want to measure is
the response time for every performed action by the
user, for example login time,
page download time, logout time, etc..

So should i remove the timers of the script, and
should i use the synchronize request command, or what
do you recomend for this kind of test.

Also i got a question, why is that when you use a
timer for all the script, and you use timers in every
sections of the script, when you sum the timers of
the script they arent equal to the timer that
measured the time of all the script.

Thanks a lot for the help...

Ability to create files

I am working on OpenSTA 1.4.3, and many a times in my
projet I have found the necessity of outputting the
data retrieved in responses to files so that the next
test can take it up as input data. Currently OpenSTA
does not support creation of files/writing into
files, it would be great if that feature is
introduced.

Thanks,

From the reviews that I have read, this seems to be a
great tool, but there is only one big problem: I need a
tool that can run from a Linux environment.

It does not seem as if this is possible currently. Has
this port been attempted? Are there any plans in the
pipeline to do this port?

Regards
Leon

Load Response_Info - Grab htm element location

I need to edit a script I created last year, and a page I
used to grab an href has since changed, and now I
cannot use a Load Response_Info variable to capture
the href.

It would be helpful if there was a place I could just copy
the htm file into, and the be able to select it from
the "load URL details" to find the object in the "HTML
tree" for my Load Response_Info variable. Now I am
trying to decrypt this old information to understand how
it identifies the location of this href, and find the cryptic
location of the href for the new page.

This is what my original Load Response_Info was:
----------------------------------------------------------------
LOAD RESPONSE_INFO BODY ON 322 &
INTO ORDER_NUMBER &
,WITH "HTML(0)/HTML(1)/BODY(2)/TABLE
(0)/TBODY(0)/TR(0)/TD(1)/TABLE(0)/TBODY(0)/TR(2)/TD
(1)/TABLE(" &
"1)/TBODY(0)/TR(0)/TD(0)/A(1):ATTRIBUTE:href(0)"

Save test results in same DIR as test case file.

Hi there.

This RFE is sort of linked to 232676.

It is possible to set-up the repository directory structure
in explorer and move the script and test case files
around. OpenSTA doesn't appear to have a problem with
this (Even though it is a kludge I know).

However it appears that when a Test is run the results
get saved to the Repository\Tests\TESTNAME directory.
this means that it is not possible to use the above
kludge to sort tests into other directories.

The simplest solution (I think) would be to softcode the
directory where the results are changed so that they
save to where ever the Test Case directory/file is.

(i.e. if it was Repository\Tests\Regression Test\Login
then the results would be saved in
Repository\Tests\Regression Test\Login\01-01-05).

I am sure a more elegent solution exists..but hey, I am
not a code guru :)

URL Details on URLs with variables.

Hi there.

Currently I have the following code set-up to make
testing different servers easier.

Set WebRoot = "http://exampleserver.com/"

PRIMARY GET URI WebRoot+"indes.htm HTTP/1.0"
ON 1

I also replace all POST and Referrer URLs with the
WebRoot variable. This appears to works nicely in the
script editor with one minor drawback.

When a URL is hardcoded (Such
as "http://www.exampleserver.com/index.htm") clicking
on the line and clicking the "URL Details" button brings
up the details for that URL.

When the URL has been part replaced with a variable
the URL details button doesn't pick up the URL in the
line I have highlighted and instead brings up the list of all
URLs referenced in the script.

Would it be possible to modify the "URL Details"
function to work with part variable URLs in the same
manner and hardcoded URLs.

Random Data file access

Hello There.

I would like the ability to randomly choose values from
OpenSTA .FVR data files. This would allow us to
randomly select records from a large file for database
testing. This would be much easier to maintain and set-
up than using random non-file variables. Ideally the set-
up would be something like:

Definitions

Character*15 REFERENCE, FILE='reference',
RANDOM, LOCAL

Code

NEXT REFERENCE

The ability to seed such random access would also be
very useful.

No Disconnection on EXIT command

Background

On completion of a script or when encountering an
explicit EXIT command, the Test Executor closes any
open TCP connections.

This is not always desirable, especially if building a
modular scripting structure.

Requirement

The script developer should be able to specify whether
the thread disconnects or not on completion of a script.

Suggested Implementation

Remove the disconnect feature from the EXIT command
and during capture add "DISCONNECT ALL" just before
each of the two "EXIT" commands at the end of the
script.

Reasoning

Everyone will have differing requirements. Complete and
simple control is provided by using the
existing "DISCONNECT" statement instead of the implicit
disconnection that results from the "EXIT" command.

Saving used Script within the Testresults for documentation

Hi I'm using OpenSTA quite often. I do run tests and
sometimes modify the scripts an run tests again.
Unfortunatly I can't reproduce the tests from the past
because the used Test-Scripts are already modified. So
it would be nice to have a copy of the used scripts
dumped in the results for a test. So one could have
picture of what happened at a test in the past.

Remotely configured Name Server

At this moment I'm running tests on 13 pc's, and if for no
reason my pc crashes (not OpenSTA but NT related), I
have to go to every pc to restart the Name Server.

Is it possible to make the Name Server remotely
