No matter which PDF Split and Merge plugin you use, there is no consistent output file format. The generation of a unique file name for pdf output would allow for easier tracking and organization of files.

Running PDF Split and Merge 2.2.4, Java Version 7 update 60, Windows 7 x32.
Added a screenshot to illustrate the request.

Pre-fill destination output filename in merge

When the user merges multiple pdf files then in the entry field for the target result file name a (unique) file name should automatically be filled.
This file name should be the same as the file name of the first merge files name PLUS a "...._out" before the extensions ".pdf" or
- alternatively - a timestamp like "....20100409-165734".

If the user does not like the suggested filename he can changed it manually.
