You have not given a location to make this change. The variables named in the page were inherited from the previous author, and we mostly just got it "usable" for this purpose with as little modification as possible.

That being said, listing at least one line number (with SVN revision to be sure we find it) would be useful to register your opinion on the naming change.

We will more likely be changing it to a graphic. The record-counter would confuse people looking at records that have numeric primary key (ie: if the key is 57, but the record counter is 52 and the boss says to delete 52 ... which 52? key 52 or blue link 52?).

Additionally, the system detects primary key as first column and refuses edit/delete if the first column is not the primary key (last time I checked!), thus the "O" would not be shown.
