Therefore:

Thanks for the patch!

If you are still around and can still remember your idea, I would like to understand the problem that your patch solves: the abbrev_prompt() function is used exclusively by the prompt afaik, and cd-ing to a UNC path doesn't work anyway due to a limitation in cmd.exe (I am actively looking for a workaround, but this is a different story).

FYI, your patch still applies (!) against today's pycmd_public.py -- this is pleasantly surprising, and sad at the same time (gives us an idea about the lack of activity in the code).

It works, thanks!

#48 PyCmd crashing in ReactOS

PyCmd does work on XP. The output of
set
on XP is the same as for Win10 (that is, no empty line at the beginning).

Attached is an updated PyCmd that can handle an empty line in the output of
set
.

Can you give it a shot?

My guess is that this won't be the only incompatibility and since I don't have access to ReactOS making this work might prove too complicated; but it's worth a try...

#48 PyCmd crashing in ReactOS

Yes the empty line is there. From what I know at the moment their compatibility target is Windows Server 2003 (which I assume would include XP) -- do you know if PyCmd works on XP?

I've only just started using it, so I don't know anything either really haha. The output of set definitely looks a bit alien to me, but that might just be because it's XP like.

#48 PyCmd crashing in ReactOS

There is an empty line at the top of the file, which is surprising.

Do you see this empty line when you run
set
from the command prompt (in cmd.exe)?

Is it possible that your system has a different
set
implementation? Is it not the same internal command of cmd.exe?

Sorry if my questions are stupid, I don't know a anything about ReactOS :(

#48 PyCmd crashing in ReactOS

Here it is.

#48 PyCmd crashing in ReactOS

Can you please attach the most recent temp file you can find in %APPDATA%\PyCmd\tmp ?
