I have a feature request that would make use of the library with existing applications more elegant. I suggest that the registry be made user-replaceable (with registry.py becoming abstract and its current implementation moved into some "simple_registry" example). The primary motivation for such a change is that it would enable me to use the Python API of the rest of my application (which is in turn backed by an SQL database) to access and store the data which is currently non-persistently kept in the registry. If this was implemented, it would be convenient if all modification of objects in the registry could be made through the the registry class so that any interactions with the registry store are implemented in one place.

If I can get the time, I would be happy to implement this myself. However, before I embark on making any changes, I would like to check that there weren't already plans or attempts underway to fix this problem or if anyone has any suggestions on a better way of going about it?
