I just wanted to introduce a new software that serves as a great alternative to the outdated RealTerm. It's called SerialPort, and it offers more features and is up-to-date. This multiplatform software runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and a free version is available.
It fully supports Python scripting, allowing you to create your own scripts using the SerialTool GUI (https://www.serialtool.com/_en/serial-port-python.php). Additionally, it offers a SerialPort sniffing kernel driver, which is extremely useful for spying on a COM port even when it's opened by another software (https://www.serialtool.com/_en/serial-com-spy-sniffer-logger.php).
SerialPort includes an integrated Modbus client to test your Modbus commands (https://www.serialtool.com/_en/serial-port-modbus-client-rtu-ascii-tcp.php) and features a software oscilloscope for visually showing data flow (https://www.serialtool.com/_en/serial-port-oscilloscope.php).
It also has a super useful auto-answer function when a specific packet is received (https://www.serialtool.com/_en/serial-port-auto-answer), and it allows you to trigger alarms when specific packets are received (https://www.serialtool.com/_en/serial-port-alarm-trigger-on-buffer.php). Furthermore, you can redirect your serial data to the network via TCP, UDP, or HTTP GET or POST calls (https://www.serialtool.com/_en/serial-port-packet-to-network.php).
This is definitely a great piece of software, and I wanted to share this experience with you as RealTerm is no longer supported, and its Delphi source code is incomplete and thus not as useful.

Also, I actually came to RealTerm after SerialTool overwhelmed me. As a beginner, things in RealTerm seem far easier to get a handle on. And SerialTool had some weird screen-sizing things going on in my version that were a bit annoying, plus of course tabs that would only lead to a popup telling you to get the pro version to access that feature. Like, I get it, but if I got the free version, maybe just have one 'Pro Features' tab instead of 3+
