Problems on Fedora 5 x86_64

Hi,

I am really new to this since I want to switch from
Windows to Linux. I have been using Origin for about
five years and I was happy to see that there was an
Origin clone for Linux. I downloaded the source
tarballs and installed it. I had some problems (the
same version of scigraphica could not find the
libscigraphic libraries because they were named wrong,
but the latest lib fixed it) but finally I could
compile it. Now I have two serious problems:

1. When I open a worksheet and try to resize it
SciGraphica dies immediately. This happens all the
time. I could live with it just not resizing it, but
the second problem prohibits to do anything at all.

2. I do not have a menubar or any of the icons (Open,
2D plot, etc.) I have absolutely nothing; therefore,
SciGraphica is absolutely useless for me. I am sure
there must be a solution, but I do not have the time
and expertise to go into the source code and find out
what is wrong.

Here is my system:

Dell Precision Workstation 670 with two 3.6 GHz Xeon CPUs
4 Gbyte memory
RedHat Fedora 5 x86_64 with the latest updates
All the requested gtk+, gtkextra, and python modules
installed, configure does not report errors. The
libscigraphica is a version higher (2.1.1) than the
latest scigraphica due to the problem mentioned above.

I really would like to use it and get away from
Windows. I am willing to test new versions (time
permitting). Any help would be appreciated.

install problems

Hi,

when I try to run it from the command prompt I get:-
$ scigraphica
Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix>
Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix>
Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to <prefix>[:<exec_prefix>]
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
Fatal Python error: Can't import module
'numarray.libnumarray'
Aborted

when running from the application launcher it installs
I get:-
Cannot launch entry
Details: Failed to execute child process "sga" (No such
file or directory)

From the launching from the command prompt I thought,
O.K maybe I didn't install numarray.libnumarray
properly so:-

$ python
Python 2.3.4 (#1, Feb 2 2005, 12:11:53)
[GCC 3.4.2 20041017 (Red Hat 3.4.2-6.fc3)] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for
more information.
>>> import numarray.libnumarray

this implied to me that it was working fine so I'm a
little lost.

compiling on mac OS X (10.2)

Hello,

I'm very interested in trying SciGraphica on the mac. I have
installed GTK and GKTextra via fink. Now I've downloaded
the SciGraphica-0.8.0 tarball and run ./configure.
Everything seems to go okay until the script exists with:

checking for tgoto in -ltermcap... no
configure: error: Termcap not found

I've seen a post with this exact problem already, but I
wasn't able to understand the reply ... something about the
way ltermcap was handled in OS 10.1 that required a patch
to remove the reference to ltermcap from the configure
script somewhere. According to that previous post, such a
patch is no longer necessary with OS 10.2. The instruction
was to remove the appropriate lines from the patch file. I
don't understand which file I should edit. Where is the patch
file?

From browsing around, I get the impression that people are
successfully using SciGraphica on the mac. I'd like to be
one of those people! :)

Any suggestions?

File download not working

The RPM gtk+extra-0.99.17-1rh7_2.i386.rpm (for
RedHat 7.2 at least) is not working: SourceForge reports
that it couldn't open the file.

Problems with Numeric ?????

I installed SciGraphica using Fink in a Mac OSX / XDarwin:

I can not use the program, it always freezes after I try to do a
couple of things like seen the Examples or trying to imput some
data.

I always get the followong error messages after typing
"scrigraphica"

In xterm

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library

In Python terminal

File "<string>", line 1 in ?
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'Unpickler'

Hi
I have Mandrake 8.1 and tried to install scigraphica0.8
but there is a dependency problem: the library
libpython2.1.so.0.0 does'nt came with Mdk8.1 for the
i586 version.

What can I do?

configure: error: Termcap not found

A link to the termcap database exists in /etc, which I
placed on the PATH explicitly. This did not work, so I
placed the path to the file on the PATH and this was
also unsuccessful.

I am running SuSE 7.3 and have installed all the libs
and Python programs noted on the scigraphica site.

When I try to install the rpm to my suse Linux 7.3 i
got the error message libtermcap.so.2 is needed by
scigraphica-0.7.1-1suse7_1.
Where do I get the libtermcap.so.2?

What/where are modules for cvs?

I would like to download the cvs source for
scigraphica but the instructions for doing so
indicate that I must specify a module name. I do
not know what the module names are for scigraphica.
Actually, I would rather download the whole ball of
wax, not just modules. What is the proper cvs
command for downloading ALL of scigraphica for
building - as I have no cvs code downloaded for it
as yet. I need the python-numeric
bugfix/workaround.
