docs, used sfsetup to install ssh and configure wincvs (on Win NT4.0).
I am starting with CVS. I never used it, though I used proprietary tools,
and Rational ClearCase to do SCM. I have WinCVS and SSH running, I can see
my local directory in WinCVS, and I can connect with SSH from the Command
Prompt, but any checkout fail that way:

CVSROOT: bardout@cvs.sf-genericinst.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/sf-genericinst
(ssh authentication)
TCL is *not* available, shell is disabled
cvs checkout -P development/060/sf-genericinst/doc/SF2.5mdk/docs (in
directory D:\Dev\sf-genericinst)
cvs [checkout aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if
any)

*****CVS exited normally with code 1*****

Because there was no way to progress, there, I then downloaded the command
line client for Win32, and got also an error, that time more
explicit :

G:\&gt;SET
CVSROOT=bardout@cvs.sf-genericinst.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/sf-genericinst
G:\&gt;SET USERNAME=bardout
G:\&gt;SET HOMEPATH=H:\
G:\&gt;SET CVS_RSH=ssh
G:\&gt;SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRA~1\GNU\ssh;C:\PROGRA~1\GNU\cvs1-11
G:\&gt;CD D:\Dev\sf-genericinst
D:\Dev\sf-genericinst>cvs -d:ext:bardout@cvs.sf-genericinst.sourceforge.net:
/cvsroot/sf-
co development/060/sf-genericinst/doc/SF2.5mdk/docs
Host 'cvs.sf-genericinst.sourceforge.net' added to the list of known hosts.
Creating random seed file ~/.ssh/random_seed. This may take a while.
Password:
Could not chdir to home directory /home/users/b/ba/bardout: No such file or
directory
cvs [server aborted]: can't chdir(/home/users/b/ba/bardout): No such file or
directory

Indeed, this is the home directory as created when I tried ssh on
shell.sourceforge.net
I am not sure wether the client or the server attempted the homedir. I
didn't find any clue on your forum, tutorials or at sourceforge.

An important information about my question:
Despite this error, the checkout worked from the cvs command line. I also
checked to call cvs on host cvs1 from my ssh on shell.sourceforge.net and it
works the same way, with the strange error : can't chdir(<home>).
Of course, I would like also to get rid of this message, that might be due
to some peculiarity of source forge setup of cvs server, or some error of my
SF user status, when I was added to this project.

Indeed I made more test with cvs and I am able to do the update and status
and add from the command line, and then I can see the information in the
WINCVS window, but all command from WInCVS fail with the same message. So it
is truely an issue of configuration of WinCVS, I feel.

Thanks for any help.

P.S: Note I first submitted on October 25, To: mhearn@subdimension.com, that
is given in your tutorials, and to Mike SF address, and I received the errors:
Message could not be delivered for 3 days

Is there somebody to answer on this project ?
