nickname for it to match. I suggest that the completion
function look for loose matches as well as perfect* matches.

let's say my nickname is __BoredZo. you could type Bor\t, and
the completion would look past the __ and find my nickname.
(of course, if someone had a nickname starting with Bor,
theirs would be picked instead, being a perfect match.)

*case-insensitivity notwithstanding.

Update private message windows on nick change

If a person's nick changes visibly (in a channel window), open private message windows (regular and DCC chat) to them should also change, instead of the program losing track of what's going on.

Not sure what this means for logging, though - should the window remain using the same log file?

Once-only channel new message notification

In Sounds of Shirc, if you assigned a sound for new channel message, you got that sound played for every new message. This could get really annoying - not only because when I am in another app, I keep hearing noises while I've not got around to switching back to ShadowIRC, but also because it makes that sound even when I actually have the channel window focused.

ChannelBar helped fix this with its audible alert feature, which let me have a beep played on receipt of the first new message in any un-focused channel window; however, this is a ChannelBar-specific feature and doesn't help for people who want custom sounds but not ChannelBar.

Should something be done to the plugin API events system to allow plugins to be notified of the first new IM in an idle window (and maybe repeat this event every 5 minutes if ignored, in case you were AFK)? Or is this purely a matter for a sounds plugin to take care of by itself?

Visual notification

So far, the only notification available is audible, which doesn't help if you were away from the machine a minute, the sound is off or, if X still inverts the menu bar, you were not looking at the screen that instant.

Some sort of visual notification would be nice. Maybe for new channel text, the icon's eyes could glow extra bright or something (just as a background hint), and animate or bounce the Dock icon for an incoming private message.

Stuff like this, though, could use being in a plugin, but we don't have an RFE list or category for plugin developers to read. Maybe we need to have two categories set up - Application, and Plug-ins, to settle this issue. Or maybe a separate list altogether (I did create http://telcontar.net/stdin/?topic=2 but that didn't go far ;)

Better context menu support

In 1.1, the program provided limited contextual menu support for just channels and the console. Further support was added via the Popups plugin, but this caused a limitation - other plugins had no access to this system.

There are two potential solutions, at least. One would
be an actual context menu system within the application, and plugins could respond to context clicks passed to an (x, y) co-ordinate within their window or pane, with a context response (e.g. kCMContextUserInChan for a ctrl-clink in the userlist). Some sort of system may already exist, seeing as you can already at least ctrl-click on the userlist and get a context menu come up, even if it doesn't offer anything useful.

An alternative option, though, could be to have the popups plugin provide an IPC service for other plugins to utilise.

Accepting last invite/DCC offer

It would be nice to see a menu item/keyboard shortcut
used for accepting the last channel invite or DCC offer
(whichever was most recent). Not sure on the shortcut -
maybe cmd-shift-A for Accept?

"Rejoin channel" context menu item

Kinda speaks for itself really :)

Connections menu/Server list

I would like to see a server queue set up and a unlimited
connection system set up.

the Server list would become a text file in the shadowIRC
directory rather than in the program itself - example
included from my other client (Openchat/W32)

Instead of "open connection #" - you could use "Open New
Connection >" with a built submenu based on the entries in
the text file.

Multiline Paste

Could you modify the way paste behaves so that your client
monitors the max line length, and if paste buffers are full
