Allow simple copy as well as tar

This may well be outside the scope of the project but something else while I'm here to annoy you with :-)
Is there any way that the program could have the interface altered to allow selection of directories for a simple copy as well?
At the moment I have a short script which runs a backup of my full system (excluding /home/user/Music and /home/user/Photos) and then cp -Ru the Music and Photo folders to a seperate location on my external HD.
For example save a full tar'd backup to
mnt/blah/Backup
and then copy
/mnt/blah/Music
/mnt/blah/Photos

Add notification area icon

I have been a longtime user of simple linux backup and find it a brilliant system.
Something I would find really useful would be a notification area icon when the bkup script is running - something unobtrusive which displays % complete when hovered on. At the moment, the only way to tell bkup is running is either a top | grep bkup or to watch the HD activity light going nuts!
This could be easily implemented using zenity -
zenity --notification --window-icon icon.png
with a different icon for each stage of the backup would be great. I may have a go at some point today and submit a patch, although my bash skills leave something to be desired.

Optional data encryption

Checksum to validate data copy onto backup medium

Perform a checksum on the data (tar archive) to be
copied to the backup medium, and to the data after
copying, to ensure the data was copied reliably.

Check cron service in SBCP

Check that the "cron" service is set up on the user's
system in SBCP, report on whether or not it is.
Possibly provide a button to allow the user to set up
the service.
