Alternating colors to show nesting levels

I noticed the new Slashdot theme today with lines to show comment nesting levels, but it is not really much easier to see which level each comment is than it was before.

I'd suggest using alternating colors to show each level, much like a forum would use for nested quotes.

RFE: Block stories with certain URLs

I like reading slashdot. However, I read other sites
too. While slashdot lets me block stories by subject
or author, it doesn't let me block stories by URL.
For example, slashdot seems to post many stories
these days that basically just a link to Ars
Technica. I read Ars Technica so these stories just
annoy me. They fall into various categories and
authors though so I can't block them using the
current controls.

In this specific case, I'd like the ability to block
stories with a link to arstechnica.com but ideally,
any URL could be provided.

I'd love for every site to someday provide the means
for readers to use the browser's (consistent) built-in
navigation features for "standard" concepts like this.

RSS Feeds For Comments

Most sites don't get thousands of comments a day like
slashdot so a feed of most recent comments would be a
good idea.

Would like to see tags in tag-clouds, and HoF

I realize tagging on Slashdot is still beta, but when
it's closer to un-beta, it would be neat to see

a) tag clouds, both for the site and per-user

b) a "tags" subsection in the HoF. Specifically, I'd be
curious about ...
- the top few taggers by sheer numbers (top 10 seems a
bit much, but maybe top 5?)
- the top few taggers by unique tags
- most-frequently used tags, sitewide (and for that, I
really would like to see 10 of them -- and could do
without the administratively useful ones like spelling
/ dupe).

Like everything else on Slashdot, though, I realize
these are subject to gaming / abuse. But tagging and
following the flow of tag-clouds is addictive enough
that (I think) it would make up for this.

Webpages of the top 100 influencial Slashdot-users

Hi,

Hope this is submitted at the right place.

Many users have an url connected to their usersname. I
suspect that the webpages of the most influencial
Slashdot-users would be very interesting to see.

May you please add an updated list of these urls,
perhaps the top 100, to Slashdot?

The number "100" is just a suggestion, and I guess
there are many ways of finding the "most influencial"
ones. Anyways, I think it would be really interesting,
and add value to Slashdot.

Allow users to search/select stories from a particular date

I wanted to do a retrospective on "what stories were running on Slashdot
on xx/yy/zzzz" and I was unable to convince the search function to do so.
Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but being able to search for all
stories from a particular date or date range would be useful to me, and
probably to others.

Navigational aid for after comment submission

You know how, when you are eligible to metamoderate,
after you submit a comment, the page asks you if you
would, and provides a link to go there, but does not do
so if you aren't eligible? It'd be nice if it provided
a link to go back two in your history to the story you
were reading before you made your comment on the
Comment Submitted page, kinda like how the metamoderate
page gives links to Home and your User Page when you
are finished. Should be easy to implement, just a
static 2-back in the history will put you back where
you were before you felt the need to comment.

THere should be a way for users to browse the comments.
admin.pl?op=recent does use sub displayRecent that
would do the job nicely. comments.pl can just default
to that, since it doesn't do anything now when not
passed any variables.
