It would be very helpful if Spreadsheet Compare had a "pause and save" option. Very often during the course of the day at work, I am required to patch or upgrade software on my computer that requires a reboot. Several times since I installed Spreadsheet Compare I've lost the results of a comparison that had been running for hours.
That's a toughy! The major problem I see with an automated process is continuing the compare report and Merged Diffs report which need to be reopened, the files may have been deleted/moved, user may compare different files by accident. There are a lot of ways that things could wrong.
At the moment, you can start comparing on any row using the Compare Type options, so you could start where you had ended last (will check if cancelling the process finalises everything gracefully). Renaming the reports and continuing the compare would generate two sets of reports that could be combined by the user.
Looks like Cancel closes gracefully, the reports are saved at the point of cancel.
The Compare Report shows what has been compared and what has not, which allows for manual continuation.
The Merged Diffs report is started as a copy of the New data, so I can blank that out as it is confusing. Also, I think that the Start Row applies to all sheets (need to check). Could change this to apply to the first sheet only.
By the way, are your long compares cell-by-cell or database style? Are they single sheet or multi-sheet?
