Hello,

I was wondering whether you could allow a higher ranked player to challenge a lower ranked player.

You might ask: why would you need such option?
The answer is: I am currently running a league and often players forget to challenge before playing. The problem when this happens is that the higher ranked player can't record the game score after the match. Only the lower ranked person can challenge and report the score.

Could you implement this feature? It would also be easy for me to justify why my college should donate to squash ladder software.

Cheers, Lee

This could be achieved in a few ways that I can think of.

    1) Rank by points/ELO and allow any player to challenge any other player. The problem with a higher player challenging a lower player is they can pick on lesser players in order to get more points.

    2) Rank by position and allow challenges below position. There's not much to be gained by challenging below your position as the only way is down. For many more sociable ladders the playing is more important than the rankings so this isn't a big issue.

    3) Being able to record the results of friendly games that wouldn't be permitted in the ladder but the results could be recorded and appear in player stats.

    4) I think you are saying that perhaps challenges are made verbally but for whatever reason the challneger isn't making the challenge online. Once the challenge is made then either of the players can record the result online. Do they know that?

    Hello,

    Thanks for coming back.

Currently, I am running a squash league with the ladder. The plan is to split the players in groups, and record every game between them. It's like how professional players are ranked. Sometimes, James Willstrop will beat David Palmer, and sometimes not. Either way, how professionals rate their rankings is by points. Even though you might lose, your overall points will still increase.

So I want to invite you to think out of the ladder system a bit. In my college, we need a ranking system where any player can challenge any one in the ladder. Of course because this is a league and there are rules: the top players are only allowed to challenge within the top group.

I can verbally confine top players from picking on beginners. But the problem really is that sometimes the lower ranked player forgets to challenge the higher ranked person before the match. This makes it impossible for the higher ranked person to report the scores if s/he wants to.

Bottom line: I tried to allow everybody to challenge everyone, but I can't find the option to allow this happening. And for league games this is precisely the function we need! Judging from your comment, I have an impression that this might be possible in the current system. How can I do this? I tried virtually every option, starting from back challenge to pyramid ladders and so on. Any ideas?

    Cheers, Lee
