subread-buildindex segfaults when trying to construct an index for FASTA files where the sequences are stored on single lines (one long single line per record).
The specification for the FASTA format states that the sequences can be stored on single lines, but it is recommended to keep the line lengths to less than 80 characters. Some software still output sequences on single lines and whether subread supports this or not should maybe be stated somewhere?
