Save the file in .fodt format

Edit with a text editor (I use Atom, it's got to be able handle huge files)

Make your replacements

Open file again and recompile all equations (takes forever)

Change is no affected, so save in odt format again (fodt files a huge) - though some folk keeping their docs in git are actuallya dvocating fodt as it's text and hence easier to store compressed diffs of.

If I have a change in mind about a particular symbol or presentation mode I am finding myself having to open and edit by hand a great many equations. In fact am about to explore unzipping the odt file, editing the xml and rezipping it to see if I have a workaround. But I'd love to be able to do it straight in Writer if I could.
