It's hard to make&lt;br /&gt;
them work because only Java 5 (1.5, Tiger) supports&lt;br /&gt;
32-bit Unicode, and even it supports it in a hacky way&lt;br /&gt;
using UTF-16 and surrogate pairs.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I doubt these matter.  Workaround, in case they do, is&lt;br /&gt;
to hand edit the output or, maybe, to encode the 16-bit&lt;br /&gt;
surrogate pairs.  I don't know if the latter will yield&lt;br /&gt;
the correct UTF-8 output or not.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</description><dc:creator xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">David L.
