I see netfilter modules is installed but where is iptables :
( ?

i think it's really important that it's not there because it's
easy to pop this cd in and use it as a router.

I've encountered few problems in version 1.1:
1) Hanging up whenever I press F1 at boot prompt
2) X Server doesn't work with my Matrox G200
3) Some hang ups during shutting down

Hi,
I've downloaded and started Virtual Linux on my
machine. The general impression is very, very good!
It'd a nice piece of work. I experimented earlier with
other distributions, which could be started directly
from CD, but they usually don't have the opportunity to
save current settings on the other partition. And you
need to reconfigure the system every time you boot it,
which is very inconvenient. Your system does store
current settings and it's the major advantage.

During the setup I've found several minor bugs/
misconfigurations:

1. Theris is a libgpm1 package installed, but no
gpm package. As a result, there is no mouse
available in text mode.

2. I use ne2000 compatible network card.
I needed to install manually (using modprobe)
the "ne" module, because it was not detected
automaticlly. But I get my IP-number from the
DHCP server. And it didn't work, because it
required module "af_packet" to be loaded at the
boot time. After I loaded it manually it worked.
Since it's a generic DHCP related problem, could
you please put "af_packet" module in the list of
modules which are automatically loaded during
reboot? (It's probably /etc/modules file)

3. I was a bit disappointed, that there is no
Netscape Communicator 4.X installed.
I like Mozilla, but I'd also like to have old
plain Netscape.

4. Now you don't ask user, where to store the
settings. You simply put it on the first
VFAT(?) partition. It would be nice, to be able
to customize this and allow the user to select
partition, which should be used for storage
of current configuration. It's also very nice,
to have the ability to tell, what parts of
current filesystem should be stored there.
For now it's only /etc and /root directtories,
but probably user wants to save something else
as well. I think, that changing your setup script
to manage that is not very difficult.

move to 8.1 for devfs support

8.1 beta in cooker already has devfs support, which
gives you much more flexibility in mounting virtual
device directories over the top of (e.g.) the cdrom,
and can save you lots of space in /dev for inodes etc.

Sounds like just the thing for your project, a recent
cooker development news issue (mandrake weekly news?)
had more details...

The file /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.dk must have a
single line commented out..
Typing "xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.dk" will
tell you wich one!.

usage idea

This might be a great way for users with limited hard drive space to use linux. If the system created a linux directory in the windows hard drive (c:) then you could create a /home, /etc and /usr/local on the windows drive which would give you a pretty usable system with the ability to adapt to the system being used. Any way to make a scaled down version for use on 32 meg systems?
