running on different machines could synchronize the
most recent vlan.db's configuration.

Thanks a lot for OpenVMPS!

Autodetect updated configuration

It would greatly simplify administration if vmpsd
observed the modification date of vlan.db and re-read
it as soon as it's modified. One would not have to
relaunch vmpsd after every configuration change.

I am not sure about the most efficient implementation
because file system notifications are not totally
cross-platform. The most trivial way is, obviously, to
poll vlan.db's modification date.

Thanks a lot for the program!

Web Interface

I would be nice to have a web interface which can
modify the DB file (to add new MAC addresses, vlans,
etc). Also to be able to search for users on MAC
address, or switch & port. And list log events like
unknown devices sending requests or black listed MAC
addresses trying to connect, etc.

Also some sort of automatic vlan selection from a list
of specified vlans, for example, if you specify a
group of vlans then each vlan is given an eqaul number
of users on them. So vlans don't get over crowded. Or
specifying how many users on each vlan before
assigning users to the next vlan.

A graphical display of how many users/MAC addresses
are online and on each vlan would be nice too.

Improve "const correctness"

Would you like to apply the advices from the article
"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Const_correctness" to
your sources?
I suggest to add the key word "const" to the type
specifiers for parameters like the following.
- r (function "print_request")

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/vmps/vmpsd/vqp.h?rev=1.1.1.1&view=markup

- host, community, port, speed, duplex (function
"set_port_speed")

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/vmps/vmpsd/snmp.h?rev=1.1.1.1&view=markup

Send changes to the vqp client

Hello

This tool is really nice.
The commercial version from cisco (User Registration
Tool) offers a feature that the vpq client will be informed
if a change on the vlan assignment occurs. Is this also
possible with OpenVMS ?

For example:

If I move a mac-address from one vlan to another, so i
have to change the line in the vmps.db, from "address
0010.a49f.30e3 vlan-name TEST" to
"address 0010.a49f.30e3 vlan-name TEST1"

It would be nice that this change will be automatically
send to the client. With the current version i have to do
a shut and no shut or something else on the ethernet
port on the switch. I hope you understand what i mean,
because my english is terrible ;)

Add SIGHUP support to re-read vmps.db

Current daemon must be killed and restarted to re-read
nice.
