The vmpsd is running

Here is the configuration file header :

!Global Configuration
vmps domain isepp
vmps mode open
vmps fallback portables
vmps no-domain-req allow

when the switch send a request, I've a correct answer from the server (running with -d option for testing) : ALLOW: 00:10:a4:9f:30:e3 -> portables, switch (unknown) [10.0.0.1] port 2/4
but on the switch, the port is not assigned.
with vqpcli.pl, the result is :

./vqpcli.pl -s 192.168.1.6 -v ISEPP -w 10.0.0.1 -i 2/4 -m 0010.a49f.30e3
Vlan:
MAC Address:
Status: ALLOW

No Mac and no VLan strange, no ?

On the old vmps server (running on slack), it is :

./vqpcli.pl -s localhost -v ISEPP -w 10.0.0.1 -i 2/4 -m 0010.a49f.30e3
Vlan: portables
MAC Address: 0010a49f30e3
Status: ALLOW

Vlan and Mac address...

Any idea ?

start vmps as a demon with the right vlan.db

I have not much experience in Linux. I use Ubunto 9.4 and have installed OpenVMPS 1.3
It works fine if I start it on the command line with the option -f /etc/vlan.db
How can I start it as a daemon so it use my database vlan.db in directory /etc ?
Thank a lot

Switchports remain unassigned

Hi folks,
Newbie install of v1.3 on Ubuntu Hardy.
vmps says it's ALLOWing the mac on the port in the VL BUT the cisco VQP packet has no vlan_name, thus the port remains unassigned.
This might be me typo'ing the vlan.db file...but i've tried a few combinations and got nowhere. Hmm, not quite, since DENY's appear to work OK.
I can post examples if requested, but I'm not sure how often this board is viewed - for what is a really useful product it seems to be a bit of a devil to get support on!

I was trying to setup vmpsd on a x86 box running Solaris 10. I have been unable to do so since the vmpsd server does not seem to be sending back the right response. When I run the vmpsd server with the -l 0x807 log level in non daemon mode I see the following:

VQP Request
Unknown: 1
Request Type: 1
Response: 0
No. Data Items: 6
Sequence No.: 449
Client IP address: 10.8.8.101
Port name: Gi1/0/4
Vlan name: --NONE--
Domain name: unon
MAC address: 0016411559f6
ALLOW: 0016411559f6 -> icts, switch 10.8.8.101 port Gi1/0/4

Of particular interest is the 'Vlan name: --NONE--' entry. I then compiled the code on a Sparc running Solaris 9 and the vmpsd server performed flawlessly. I then tries it on an x86 running Solaris 9 and again it performed flawlessly. The o/p in both cases was:

VQP Request
Unknown: 1
Request Type: 1
Response: 0
No. Data Items: 6
Sequence No.: 337
Client IP address: 10.8.8.101
Port name: Gi1/0/4
Vlan name: icts
Domain name: unon
MAC address: 0016411559f6
ALLOW: 0016411559f6 -> icts, switch 10.8.8.101 port Gi1/0/4

I then ran the binary that was compiled on the X86 running Solaris 9 on a x86 box running Solaris 10 (the first box) but again ran into the same problem!! Debug again shows --NONE-- next to Vlan name

Do you know of any issue with running vmpsd on a Solaris 10 x86 box?

Seasons greetings and a very prosperous and happy new year

is it possible to use a MySQL database for mac adress
to vlan assignment instead of the vlan.db file??

If yes, how can i do this?

I'm using Debian Linux Sarge 3.1 (kernel 2.6), openvmps
1.3,switches of cisco(2950 and 2950) and a CISCO 6509
router.

the file-based database (vlan.db) works perfectly, but
it is not so easy to handle for about 2000 clients.

One change I
found was that if a switch reconfirms and the vmps is
configured to hand out a different vlan for a port than
what is already assigned to that port, the vmps
responds with a DENY for that port:

Here is my config:

vmps domain ungoliant
vmps mode open
vmps fallback default
vmps no-domain-req deny
vmps-mac-addrs
address 00d0.b7b3.6516 vlan-name VLAN0103

Here is the log:

VQP Request
Unknown: 1
Request Type: 3
Response: 0
No. Data Items: 6
Sequence No.: 48
Client IP address: 10.2.1.54
Port name: Fa0/10
Vlan name: VLAN0102
Domain name: Ungoliant
MAC address: 00d0b7b36516
DENY: 00d0b7b36516 -> (null), switch 10.2.1.54 port Fa0/10

Is this the expected result? I think it's reasonable
that a VLAN would change while a PC is still connected
to the port.

Thanks for any help you can give!
