through OSX version 10.3.9 with an Orinoco PCMCIA card
in a PowerBook 500. Upgrading the OS to 10.4.5 the
other day seems to have broken it. IoExperts has a
purchaseable driver that works, but it would be almost
as cheap to get an external USB "g" compatible antenna.
I was hoping that you might be able to make thr driver
OSX 10.4.x compatible, or be able to tell me if it
would be possible to copy a "kext" file from the old OS
into Tiger that would allow it to function. Breaking
"new" wireless devices isn't an issuse as I can always
reinstall the OS if needed. Thanks!

Stu

Oh, just an FYI... I got the orinoco/lucent wireless
card out of an external 2-Wire (SBC-Yahoo) USB receiver
package. They used the same PCMCIA card as for the PC
card slots and just plugged it into a PCMCIA/USB
converter and put it inside a plastic shark-fin looking
plastic case for use external use with desktop PC's
etc. The removed PCMCIA card works great in my
PowerBook since they didn't make a USB Mac driver.

I'm working on a Powerbook G4 - 400 MHz, with Mac
OS X 10.2.8 installed and I experienced the same
problems as most of you do. I had my Buffalo WLAN
Card working until today it refused every service.
Problem was that it didn't get any IP-address via DHCP.

The only IP-adres I received was something like
169.254.*.*.

The only solution I could find was changing the channel
in my router's settings (e.g. 11 instead of 6 for my D-
Link DI-713P) and changing the network name from
default to a new name. I also changed the value of Web
Encryption to 128 bit in my router and changed the
position of the WEP key to 2 instead of 1.

Rebooting the router and changing all these values in
my Wireless Config Pane gave me at least the Signal
Strength. OK so far !!

Still I didn't have the desired IP-address. Looking again
in my routers settings revealed that he had changed the
values of the WEP Encryption back to "No WEP
Encryption and the position of the WEP key back to 1.
Changing these values again in the Wireless Config
Pane gave me my desired IP-address. Changing the
value of the DHCP-client-ID didn't change anything...

I hope this will help you a little bit further.

Don't hesitate to contact me when necessary !

Cheers,

what I think is the strongest wireless network in the vicinity but
cannot figure out how to see a list of available networks. I thought
this is what the Airport Admin Utility did and that the driver can
coexist with this utility, but I can't get it to work at all.I tried
KisMac but got a kernel panic every time.

isn't.
1. PowerBook G3 (Lombard) with OS 10.3.2
2. d-Link Wireless Router DI-514
3. Airstation WLI-PCM-L11GP
4. Wireless router functioning correctly--connects with other
laptops
I've installed the drivers and they recognize the card. I've done
all the configurations with encryption on and off with no
difference in result. The Wireless Config Panel shows full signal,
the Network Panel Reports Ethernet Adaptor is active, the IP
address has been assigned and that the machine is connected to
the internet via (en1) (green dot). The Router reports the
wireless connection with the appropriate MAC address for the
Powerbook. But it doesn't work. Browser reports "unable to find
find the server". Pinging the PowerBook works fine. Pinging the
router returns: "Host is down". It finds the router but they aren't
talking. Wired ethernet connection works fine. Green lights all
the way and the car won't move. Now what? Would appreciate
help untangling this one. Thanks
