Nice and small. A native install can easily be backed up and restored, and makes a decent bare-bones starting point for almost any application. A couple of feature requests \(if anyone is still paying attention\), for version 0.6:

1\. By default, have the CD boot with the ssh server turned on. That way, no gui interaction with the box is necessary \(it can all be done thru network\).

2\. Upgrade the kernel to 2.6 \(LINUX26\). Upgrade the distro to an etch variant \(if possible -- I know this largely depends on DSL, but maybe switch to DSL-N to do so\).

2.1 Change to idesk from xtdesktop, and fbh for wallpaper.

3\. Include the latest atiusb LIRC driver \(instead of xpad\), so that remote works as mouse.

4\. Include RFB server \(for more remote access joy\).

5\. Include xbox-hdinstall on menu \(for native install into partition of our choice\).

Best regards,

Rob Gingher

Given that we know the public key, and something with "all ones" at the start is conceptually similar to negative "all zeros", would this not make it computationally feasible to generate a new signing key that will "pass" all XBOX signature checks ? \(eg: choose p and q such that they yield the same public key as the XBOX, since we know that the decrypted hash will either never go through the "modulus" stage, or will always do so in a predictably useful way?\)

If so - you can ship Linux on a DVD that will boot in any Xbox, no modding needed.

My buest guess as to 'why' microsoft made such an odd choice of padd \(nonrandom\) is to comply with strong-cryptography export rules?

USB flash drive as RAM

I mulled over the details of the software approach and
decided that i wanted to play games and have a computer
at the same time. problem is, i want to run windows
apps through wine. the xbox only has 64 mbs of ram. if
a flash drive could be hooked up, that would be
awesome\! no need for soldering and stuff like that. i
understand people will want to use more ram for thier
own reasons too. any case, it will be a wonderful speed

will mac X leopard\! why not the woefully short xbox?
more ram means more power and usb flash drives will do
the trick.

Support for on-disk partition table

Is it possible to have the patch posted in the

This patch will "support reading the on-disk partition

for the Microsoft xbox kernel. This allows using an

So you should make a version which is like KNOPPIX and
can run off of a CD. This would be better for less
