I am an xbox v1.6 owner who is frustrated by the
overscan of my stupid microsoft video chip. I was just
wondering if it is possible to correct this problem by
allowing the user to actually resize the screen
manually. Thereby fixing any resolution problems. I
could be way off though because I'm guessing that
major kernel changes would be necessary if this
approach is even feasible. Just an Idea . --

The xboxfbctl utility allows you to change the overscan once
Linux is running. I find `xboxfbctl -o=13,13` works well on
my TV with a 1.0 XBox.

On the earlier boxes you can use the `xboxfbctl` utility to
change the overscan percentage. I don't know if that works
on a 1.6 box or not.
