lmbench is a suite of simple, portable, ANSI/C microbenchmarks for UNIX/POSIX. In general, it measures two key features: latency and bandwidth. lmbench is intended to give system developers insight into basic costs of key operations.

nmon is short for Nigel's Performance Monitor It either shows you the stats on-screen updating once a second or saves the data to a CSV file for later analysis and graphing. It integrates well with saving data directly to InfluxDB and graphing with Grafana.

wrk is a modern, command-line HTTP benchmarking tool engineered for high performance, capable of generating substantial load using a single multi-core CPU by leveraging multithreading and scalable event notification systems. An optional LuaJIT script can perform HTTP request generation, response processing, and custom reporting. Details are available in SCRIPTING and several examples are located in scripts. The machine running wrk must have a sufficient number of ephemeral ports available and closed sockets should be recycled quickly. To handle the initial connection burst the server's listen(2) backlog should be greater than the number of concurrent connections being tested.

System Stability Tester is a multi platform open source clone of SuperPI and comes with a GUI and a CLI. It can be used for CPU and RAM burning, stressing and benchmarking.

OpenGLChecker is a fast and smooth program that retrieves relevant information about your OpenGL implementation. It can also test your computer's performance with fully scripted benchmarks. This allows you to write your own benchmark scripts for testing your OpenGL performance.

Having been a Mac OSX user now for some years I appreciate the simplicity of CoconutBattery (http://www.coconut-flavour.com/), which shows you all relevant information of the battery of your laptop (iBook, PowerBook, MacBook, ...) and has one outstanding feature: you can save the current health state of the laptop's battery and thus monitor the long term development (degradation) of the battery. Since I have to work in Windows at work :-( I was looking for a similar tool in the MS world. You can find a number of battery monitoring programs for MS Windows, which give you a plethora of (useless) information - or do not work at all. Finally I decided to make one of my own (the world waited for that so badly!). And here it is. Since I did not want to restrict it to Windows only I made it a GTK application, which is cross platform portable. I created the low level data gathering functions for both Windows and Linux. You are very welcome to add additional ports (e.g. BSD or whatever).

Likwid is a simple to install and use toolsuite of command line applications and a library for performance oriented programmers. It works for Intel, AMD, ARMv8 and POWER9 processors on the Linux operating system. There is additional support for Nvidia and AMD GPUs. There is support for ARMv7 and POWER8/9 but there is currently no test machine in our hands to test them properly.

Filebench is a file system and storage benchmark that can generate both micro- and macro-workloads. It employs versatile Workload Model Language (WML) for detailed workload specification. Filebench includes several popular macro-workloads in its distribution: Web-server, Mail-server, Database-server, and others.

mdtest is an MPI-coordinated metadata benchmark test that performs open/stat/close operations on files and directories and then reports the performance.

Open System Testing Architecture - a distributed software testing architecture designed around CORBA. The current toolset has the capability of performing scripted Web (HTTP and HTTPS) heavy load tests with performance measurements from Win32 platforms.
